My self portrait drawings of my sometimes pregnant nude form and body prints, using children’s media, bring the sheltered or hyper-sexualized form to an appreciated, non-scrutinized position. By incorporating my children’s craft and imagery, my children and I connected through the process and outcome in their early ages. [No children’s art was thrown out in the process; hundreds of artworks were made and saved weekly with collaborating!] The works reveal the inseparability of motherhood and artistry; and dichotomies of body image, sexuality and gender identity as it plays a role in motherhood and youth. At the simplest, they are playful acts of love–for childhood, motherhood and the female body.
Ranging in size from 8” hearts to 9×12” drawings and 18×24” acrylic body prints on paper, watercolors, and mixed media with coloring book pages, these works start at an investment of $50. Contact for sales or to see more of the series.
