This series marks my transition into the “empty nest”—a developmental shift documented through a layering of self-portrait drawings, body prints, and journalistic script. As the domestic space has grown unexpectedly quiet, my work has become a site for processing the profound grief of this departure while simultaneously mapping the terrain of a new, independent selfhood. I utilize body prints to ground the work in the physical reality of a mother’s form, overlaying them with detailed drawings that capture the psychological weight of this threshold.

While the silence of a changing home can feel heavy, I deliberately employ a palette of bright, defiant colors to represent the hope and evolution inherent in this second act. My own handwriting weaves through the compositions, acting as both a private diary and a public archive of the “inner labor” required to navigate this transition. By integrating raw, journalistic reflections with vibrant aesthetics, I seek to transform the void of the empty nest into a space of generative visibility, proving that while the house may be quieter, the creative voice is louder and more expansive than ever.
