Sallery Studios is an independent artist residency and social practice startup based in Morgantown, West Virginia. Founded by artist and curator Sally Jane Brown, the project is designed as a residential-based incubator for creators who prioritize community engagement, dialogue, and the “slow art” philosophy.
Mission
Sallery Studios operates on the belief that art is a vital catalyst for local healing and connection. Sallery Studios provides a dedicated space for artists to move beyond the isolated studio and into the fabric of the neighborhood. Our mission is to support work that is resonant, deliberate, and deeply rooted in lived experience.
The Gallery & Local Impact
At the heart of the initiative is a dedicated gallery space that serves as a bridge between the visiting artist and the Morgantown community. This space will be more than a traditional venue; it is an exhibition site for the new perspectives, techniques, and narratives introduced by our residents. By bringing diverse artistic voices to the local scene, we foster a culture of shared attention and visual literacy that enriches our city’s creative landscape.
The Social Ambassador Model
This residency is built on the belief that the impact of art should outlast the exhibition. Sallery Studios acts as a social ambassador for the work: while the artist’s time in residence may be temporary, the connections they build and the ideas they introduce remain. We facilitate ongoing dialogue so that when an artist leaves, they leave behind a community that is more connected, inspired, and attuned to the “architecture of care” that defines our social fabric.
Looking Forward
Sallery Studios is currently in its seed-funding phase, building the infrastructure to provide artists with the physical space and community access necessary to thrive. Join us as we cultivate a sustainable platform for connection through slow art and social practice in the heart of Morgantown. If you’re interested, contact Sally.
