For a time, this blog has been the place where I’ve shared my world.
But as my creative life shifts, the way I share it needs to shift, too. Following the release of my book, Feverdream, and as I prepare for my forthcoming residency at Kinhouse, I’ve realized I need a more intentional space to bring these different threads together.
I’m moving the conversation to Notes from the Nest.
The “nest” is a bit quieter these days, and in that space, I am finding a “tense” kind of beauty. This new newsletter is my chronicle of the sovereign self, a place where I can be honest about the grit of the day-job-art balance, the evolution of my process, and the radical legacies of the women artists who paved our way.
What you’ll find in the Nest:
-
Status of the Nest: A visceral look at the current state of the studio. It’s the “inventory” of the moment: what’s on my drawing table, the reality of the work grind, and what I’m reading to stay inspired.
-
Art & Process: Behind-the-scenes looks at my Kinhouse residency. I’ll be sharing plans for the “Empty Nest” work I’m making there, my travel notes, and the evolution of new pieces.
-
The Lineage: Deep dives into feminist art history and news from the front lines of women’s art. This is where I share my current Feminist Tributes, like Luchita Hurtado, and discuss the latest in critical curating such as that of Grandma Moses at the Smithsonian.
-
The Balance: Real talk on navigating the “grind” while keeping the creative fire lit. It’s the small, human moments, like finding a stray crayon in my pencil box and leaving it there for the memory.
