I’m absolutely thrilled to share the latest contribution to the project from artist Susan Lutz. Her painting is a stunning blend of expressive blues, delicate floral details, and penciled round circles at its center. The piece feels alive with movement and depth, drawing you in to contemplate its layers.
As Susan explained, her original intention was to create an embroidered cyanotype, but her process evolved into something even more personal. She traced the outline of her grandmother’s embroidery hoop and overlaid it with prints and paintings made from flowers in her garden. Given that many of the plants were passed down from her mother, this artwork now holds the presence of three generations of women in her family. It’s a beautiful and fitting addition to our larger project, which celebrates connection and legacy.
This piece speaks volumes about the ways in which space—both physical and emotional—can carry meaning. The circular form, reminiscent of the embroidery hoop, symbolizes the nurturing of both craft and relationships across generations, while the floral elements tie the family to nature and place. It beautifully reflects how art, like space, can serve as a container for history, memory, and love.
I’m so excited about this blank canvas coming to life!
