I’m on the hunt for objects to bring my latest artwork to life! I’ve been reflecting on how to incorporate the incredible mini-canvas contributions I’ve received from artists across the U.S. (and even one from the UK!). The variety of styles, themes, and ideas is so inspiring, and I want to create something with a raw, bold feel. I’m envisioning a layered, textured piece—maybe stitching or gluing the canvases on my own, but there’s more…
I’ve been exploring feminist art, especially the work of Hannah Höch, whose themes resonate deeply with me. Assemblage has also been on my mind, inspired by Tracey Emin and Louise Nevelson. I love Emin’s intimate integration of personal objects, and Nevelson’s ability to transform found materials into large, monochrome sculptures—evoking both order and chaos.
And then it hit me: what if I incorporate objects that symbolize each artist’s mini-canvas?
Take Lindsey Dineen’s piece—a silhouette of a feminine figure holding an umbrella and a wand with a gem in her hair. I could add a tiny umbrella, a plastic wand, or some gems to reflect her vision.
Or Sofia Lulgjuraj’s keyhole imagery—maybe some old keys or a lock could tie into her work.
Betsy Cox’s outdoor scene? How about some sticks or small plastic birds?
And don’t worry—the mini canvases will still shine! I’ll stitch them in along the edges, inviting viewers to connect the objects with each artist’s contribution.
Here’s where you come in! I’d love for you to join in the fun. If you’ve got any of the items below—or know where I can find them (Amazon? Goodwill? Your backyard?)—let me know! Just comment or DM me.
